SV 1879 Ehrenhain e.V. is one of Germany’s oldest sports clubs, founded in 1879 in Ehrenhain, now part of the town of Nobitz in the state of Thuringia. Originally named Deutscher Turnverein Ehrenhain, the club focused on gymnastics, athletics, bowling, walking, and artistic cycling. Its sporting spirit, community connection, and local pride have made SV 1879 Ehrenhain e.V. an integral part of Ehrenhain’s cultural life. In 1910, football was officially introduced to the club, marking an important turning point in its history. However, World War I (1914–1918) interrupted all activities, as many members went to the front and the club temporarily ceased operations. After the war, returning members quickly revived sports activities and rebuilt the club’s spirit. Over the decades, SV 1879 Ehrenhain not only preserved its rich sports tradition but also increasingly focused on football – Germany’s most beloved sport. The team has competed in various leagues within the Thuringian football system, from local competitions to the Landesklasse and Kreisliga, contributing to the growth of youth football in the region. With its stadium Waldsportplatz nestled in natural surroundings, the club has become a cherished meeting place for sports enthusiasts. Today, SV 1879 Ehrenhain e.V. stands as a symbol of German sporting tradition, discipline, and community pride – where passion, teamwork, and dedication continue to be passed down through generations.
